Microwave Besan Ladoo : Just 5 Mins

I didn’t have much time in my hand to prepare prasada/naivedya for Lakshmi Pooja. For naivedya, 5 different types of ladoo have to be prepared. I decided to prepare simple and easy to prepare ladoos and decided to prepare Besan ladoo, wheat ladoo, green gram ladoo, coconut ladoo, Fried gram ladoo. Couple of days back, read about preparing besan ladoo in microwave. So thought of giving a try. It’s very easy prepare in couple of mins and can be prepared by beginners.

DIY : Photoframe : Sea shells & Invitation Card


I have a hobby of collecting things like sea shells, pista shells, dried branches, feathers and many more. I use these things in my craft work and even its a memory to preserve for life time. When I had been to Mangalore, I had collected few sea shells. In this DIY craft, I have used wedding invitation card and sea shells for my photoframe. Totally forgot to take step by step pics while creating photoframe. This DIY can be done along with your kids. They will enjoy to create their own photoframe.

Vegetable Saagu - Karnataka Style

Mixed vegetable saagu is coconut based mixed veg gravy with a beautiful blend of flavors and spices and green tint in color. In every hotels and houses in karnataka prepares this recipe and little variation in the masala. Any vegetables can be added into this gravy. Beetroot may turn the gravy into light red. Pudina and coriander leaves gives a greenish tint and wonderful aroma to the curry. I have been eating this saagu along with dosa, chapathi or poori from childhood. Obviously, this recipe is passed from my mom. Whenever I find left veggies in fridge, I prepare this saagu.

Mango Sheera

Let me celebrate my 50th post through Sweet, Mango Sheera. I have seen my mom preparing different variations of Kesari bath from childhood. In Kesari bath, sugar will be added once the rava is cooked well with water or milk. In this recipe, I have added sugar directly to the roasted rava.

EOS lip balm comes with a cute small container. I didn’t want to through these boxes; Got an idea of preparing lip balm at home. This lip balm can be prepared within 5 mins. Ingredients used in this DIY are readily available at home. Here I have recycled my plain lip balm and little lip stick as a stain to the lip balm.

DIY : Bookmarks for Books

Everyone has their own way of marking the place in a book. My son reads a lot of books. He reads all type of books from Novels to News paper!!!! Every time he used to spend sometime in search of a page where he stopped last time. I thought of creating bookmarks by myself and even it will become an activity for my kids.


Herbal Ubtan / Bath Powder for Kids

My mom heard about preparing bath powder in one of the program telecasted in TV. She prepared this for my son when he was 1 year old. She prefers ayurvedic or home made products for kids. Any day home made products or ayurvedic products are good compare to store bought products. This bath powder is very easy to prepare. All these ingredients are readily available in your kitchens. This makes skin soft and smooth. Even I use this as face pack or scrub.

Mango Muffins

In my last post, I had mentioned that Mango pudding will be my last Mango recipe for this season. But I got hold of three Mangoes to try out Eggless Mango Muffins. I have used one mango to bake this muffins. Everyone at home liked the flavor and taste of the Muffin. Especially my kids liked it a lot. I baked these in Microwave Oven in Conventional Mode. It can be baked in cooker but not in Microwave Mode in Microwave Oven. All purpose flour can be replaced by whole wheat flour or vice versa. Same batter can be used for preparing Mango Cake.

Mangalore Bun

Mangalore bun is popular breakfast and tea time snack in South Canara region of Karnataka. This bun is mildly sweet fried bread made with mashed banana, flour and sugar. Whenever I visit Mangalore or Udupi, without fail I eat this bun. This post is long pending one, which is almost 6 months old. I had overripe bananas at home, hence prepared this bun.

Quick Tip Time - Hair Care : Milk and Honey Hydrating Mask

Mix 1 tsp honey into 1/4 cup of raw whole milk then massage into the hair from root to tip. Shampoo hair with lukewarm water after 25 minutes.

Jewelry Making Kit for Kids

My daughter got a gift from one of her friend on her birthday. It was ‘Jewelry Making Kit’ Making. It mainly had beads with wire to make bracelets. I forgot to take the pic of the box. My daughter was amazed to do her own bracelet. These DIY crafts helps kids to improve their fine motor skills, improves their creativity and encourages kids to think out of box. Everyday she wears her bracelets and happily shows to everyone. Below are the bracelets, chain and ear rings done by her with my help.

Mango Seekarane

In Karnataka, Seekarane is served with holige or obbittu as a side dish. This is similar to Aamras. It can be served along with Chapathi , Poori. It is very easy to prepare and takes less time for preparation. It’s a mashed mango and mixed with little milk and sugar as per the taste. In some parts of Mysore, we pronounce it as Shrikarane.

Mango Sorbet is must try for mango lovers and especially for kids. Its very easy to prepare and need only 3 ingredients. One should try this recipe during Summer season. Even we can prepare during other seasons if we get frozen mango. In this recipe, I have used directly sugar powder instead of sugar syrup. This made sorbet very soft.

Varkhi Halwa


Varki is a kind of Biscuit/Snack which is famous in Ooty. It is easily available in Roadside Tea shops in Ooty. Its a must buy when you visit Ooty along with Home Made Chocolate. We prepare Varki Halwa/Sweet at home during festivals and even in Functions ( Especially Non-Veg functions like Bheegaroota). Varki, itself has ghee and bit sweetness so you can add less ghee and sugar while preparing this halwa.
