Freshly grated coconut   - 1/4 Cup
Fresh lemon juice        - 1/2 tsp
Oil                      - 4 tbsp
Salt as per taste
Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp (for garnishing )

* Water ratio can be vary. Generally 1:2.5 ratio of Rava and water will be added to upma. If we add less water, then it makes upma dry or if we add more water , then it makes upma bit gooey.

Method:
Step 1 : Cook avarekalu with 1.5 to 2 cup of water and salt (as per taste) in a pressure cooker on medium flame for 2 to 3 whistles. Do not over cook the avarekalu. Even do not discard water and same water will be used for preparing uppittu.

Step 2 : Heat kadai and dry roast rava in medium flame until it turns slight golden brown or roasted smell of rava wafts. Set aside. Don’t over roast the rava, hence keep the flame to medium and occasionally stir rava.

Step 3 : Slice onion length wise, slit green chillies, finely chop ginger and tomato and crush cinnamon and clove.

Step 4 : In the same kadai, add oil and temper with mustard seeds, urad dal and channa dal. Once dal turns golden brown or roasted, then add green chillies, Curry leaves, cinnamon and clove powder, finely chopped ginger chopped onion into it. Fry until onion turns translucent.

Step 5 : Drain water from boiled/cooked avarekalu and add avarekalu into kadai. Mix avarekalu and saute for 1 min along with onion.

Step 6 : Measure 2.5 cup water (including water drained from boiled avarekalu) and add water and salt into it and bring it to boil. Now add finely chopped tomato into it.(Optional)

Step 7 : Once water starts boiling than adjust salt and gradually add roasted rava by stirring continuously. Be careful, it may splutter in the beginning. Mix well. It will thicken in couple of minutes. Cover and cook for couple of minutes or rava is cooked completely. Add grated coconut, lemon jucie and chopped coriander leaves. Mix it well and Switch off the stove.

Serve hot avarekalu upma/uppittu.
