Neer Dosa

Mangalore Neer Dosa is an easy, simple, quick and healthy recipe to make. This dosa requires less time unlike other dosa batter requires extra time for fermentation. It has mainly two main ingredients , Rice and Coconut. It can be prepared without coconut but coconut will give smooth and soft texture to the dosa. It can be served with Sweet chutney, Mangalore Style Tomato gassi, Egg curry or chicken curry.

Ingredients:

Rice/Dosa Rice - 1.5 Cup
Cocount - 1/4 cup
Salt to taste
Water

Preparation:

Step 1: Soak rice in water for at least 3 to 4 hours. Once rice is soaked well then drain out the water completely. In a mixer grinder, transfer soaked rice, coconut and salt with little water and grind to a smooth batter. Batter should be smooth and not coarse.

Step 2 : Transfer batter to a large bowl and add enough water to make a dosa batter has a flowing consistency. Later, if it forms a thick batter, then add a little more water to get the flowing consistency. Add salt to adjust as per the taste.

Step 3: Neer Dosa will be made similar to the Rava Dosa. Neer dosa cannot be spread like regular dosa. Since the batter is flowing consistency, batter should be pour on the hot tawa or pan. Beginners can use non stick pan instead of iron pan but dosa prepared on iron pan will give nice soft texture.

Step 4 : Make sure to grease and season iron pan. Heat the pan until it is sizzling hot. Neer dosa should be prepared on high flame. It takes very less time to cook. Once the pan has right heat, pour a ladle of batter on pan and hold and turn the pan in a circular motion or else pour the batter in the circular motion starting from the outer edges. Batter will flow by itself and completes the gap. No need to sprinkle oil on top of Neer dosa. When top of the dosa is no longer raw, then dosa is cooked. Fold the dosa into a half and then into another half to form a triangle or semi circle itself is enough.

Step 5: Keep each neer dosa away from each other when it is hot or else it tends to stick each other. Once it cools down, then can be placed on one above the other.

Serve hot Neer Dosa with Sweet chutney or Mangalore Tomato Curry or Egg curry or chicken curry.
