Dal Palak


Dal Palak is an easy, simple and healthy recipe which has lentils/dal and palak. This does not contains any heavy spices, hence it is good for the kids and even for the people who are recovering from fever.


Ingredients :

Toor Dal              - 1/4 cup
Moong Dal             - 1/4 cup
Masoor Dal            - 1/4 cup (Optional)
Chopped Palak/Spinach - 2 cup (tightly packed)
Turmeric Powder       - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds           - 1 tsp
Finely chopped Ginger - 1 tbsp
Finely chopped Green chillies - 2
Asafoetida            - pinch
Finely chopped onion  - 1 small
Red chilli powder     - 1/2 tsp
Oil or Ghee           - 2 to 3 tbsp
Water - 4 cup (Pressure cooking dal + adding water at the end)
Salt as per taste

Method:

Step 1 : Wash and soak all three lentils for at least 15 mins. Take lentils in a pressure cooker and add turmeric powder, cumin seeds and around 3 cup of water. Pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles on medium flame. After cooking dal, allow cooker to release pressure and later open the lid. Mash dal and keep aside.

Step 2 : In a pan, add ghee or oil. Fry finely chopped ginger till raw aroma of ginger goes away.

Step 3 : Now add green chilly and fry for couple of seconds and add finely chopped onion and saute onion turns translucent.

Step 4 : Add chopped spinach and saute for couple of minutes or spinach turns soft or raw smell of spinach goes away. Now add red chilly powder, salt and fry for 30 seconds. 

Step 5 : Add mashed dal and required amount of water into it as per the ones required the consistency of Dal. Mix well. 

Step 6 : Adjust the taste of the dal by adding required amount of salt and red chilly powder. Simmer Dal Palak for couple of minutes.

Serve hot Dal palak with rice.
