Tamarind dates chutney is a sweet, tangy chutney serve along with chats like samosa, kachori, dhokla and even used to prepare chats like Pani puri, Sev puri, Churmuri, Bhel puri and many more.
Ingredients:
Dates paste - 1/4 cup
Jaggery - 1/2 cup
Seedless Tamarind - 1/2 cup
Crushed fenner powder - 1/2 tsp
Byadagi Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
Dry ginger powder - 1/2 tsp
Water - 2 Cups
Salt to taste
Note:
1. Water measurement can be varied based on the thickness of chutney required.
2. Soak 1.2 cup seedless dates in a warm water for 30 mins to 60 mins and make a paste in a mixer grinder.
Preparation:
Step 1 : Soak the tamarind and jaggery separately for 1 hr in a cup of warm water each.
Step 2 : Strain tamarind pulp and jaggery in a separate bowl.
Step 3: Mix and boil tamarind pulp and jaggery for 5 mins. Add dates paste into it and boil for another 5mins.
Step 4 : Add red chilli powder, cumin powder, fennel powder, coriander powder, dry ginger powder and salt to it and boil for another 5mins. Taste and add chilli powder and salt based on your taste. Add water based on the consistency of the chutney required and boil for couple of mins. Later allow the mixture to cool completely.
Step 5 : Store in a airtight jar and store in the fridge.
Chutney can be served along with Samosa, Kachori, Dhokla and even it can be used while preparing Churmuri, Sev puri, Bhel puri, Pani puri.
Note: Chutney can used to prepare Mitta which we serve along with Pani puri in Bangalore and Mysore region by adding required amount of water into it. Mitta will be mixed with Pani to taste Sweet tangy and Spicy pani for Pani puri.
