Chicken Gravy

This chicken gravy is one of the simplest chicken gravy prepared in less time. It hardly requires 20 to 25 mins. Even ingredients used in this gravy are easily available in our kitchen. I learnt this recipe from my mom and aunts and preparing from past couple of years.

Ingredients:

Chicken      – 500 gms

Oil          - 3 tbsp
Onion        - 1 and 1/2 medium size
Curry leaves - 2 strand
Tomato       - 1 medium size

For grinding :

Ginger         – 1.5″
Garlic         – 10 cloves
Onion          - 1/2 medium size
Green chillies - 3 to 4
Coriander leaf - 1 small bunch
Pepper         - 1 tsp (Optional)

Method:

Step 1 : Clean chicken, drain and keep it aside.

Step 2 : Grind all the ingredients mentioned under ‘For grinding’ into fine paste in a mixer or blender and keep it aside.

Step 3 : Heat oil in a cooker pan. Add curry leaves and thinly chopped onion and fry till onion turns translucent. Add Chicken and fry for 3 to 4 mins. Now add salt and fry till raw smell goes away or water present in the chicken dries away and starts leaving oil.

Step 4 : Add paste into the chicken and mix well. Fry for another 4 to 5 mins and add finely chopped tomato and water based on the required consistency of the gravy.

Step 5 : Adjust the salt and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistle on medium flame. Once whistle releases then open the lid and serve hot with any indian bread like chapathi, naan, roti or even with Rice.

Note :
1) Instead of pressure cooking, chicken gravy can be prepared in a wok or a pan on a low flame. Follow the above step 1 to Step 4, after adjusting the salt in the gravy, cover the wok with the lid and allow it to cook for 15 mins or till chicken cooks completely.

2) Spiciness of the gravy can be increased by adding more pepper corns or green chillies.
